Iowa women’s basketball match at Maryland postponed mainly because of inauguration

Higher education PARK, Md. (AP) — The women’s basketball activity involving No. 7 Maryland and Iowa, scheduled for Thursday night, has been postponed for the reason that the Hawkeyes do not want to vacation with the inauguration being held one working day before.

Iowa was scheduled to fly into Baltimore-Washington Worldwide Airport on Wednesday night. But Maryland posted information of the postponement on Tuesday night, noting, “Out of caution due to Wednesday’s inauguration pursuits in Washington, D.C., Iowa manufactured the choice to not journey to Maryland.”

Wednesday’s inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris was being held amid unprecedented security actions just after a violent mob supporting President Donald Trump invaded the U.S Capitol two months back.

Iowa’s selection was supported by the Major 10 Conference. No makeup day was promptly introduced.

It is the next postponement of the 7 days for Iowa (9-3, 5-3 Major Ten), which place off Sunday’s game from Rutgers because of to COVID-19 difficulties with the Scarlet Knights.

The Hawkeyes are upcoming scheduled to host Northwestern on Thursday, Jan. 28.
