London Fashion Week to take place behind closed doors

The British Fashion Council has announced that London Fashion Week will go ahead this coming February, but it will be a front row-free affair.

Continuing on from the disruptive past year, the next ready-to-wear shows scheduled in the capital will be allowed to take place, but there will be no audience present, making it a digital-only event, the BFC has announced.

In accordance with new government guidelines, all shows, installations and presentations will be able to take place, but they will have to be photographed and filmed for the audience at home, who will be able to take in the new collections via social media and on London Fashion Week’s new digital hub.

Although there has not yet been confirmation from every major fashion capital, it is likely that the entire season will be another digital affair. The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (the organisation which runs fashion week in Paris) has told brands that the couture and menswear shows can go ahead this month, but they will not be allowed to invite guests. This will likely be the case for the womenswear ready-to-wear shows next month too.

It has been almost a year since the fashion industry first saw the cancellation of shows as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic – and it doesn’t look like the usual show schedule will be returning for at least another season.
